Before this class, I had thought about my online persona in very limited circumstances. Now, I am much more aware of how I want myself to be perceived through the internet world. I, like many individuals, have a Facebook. I definitely monitor what goes on my Facebook, what individuals who are not my friends can view, as well as what types of images/posts I am often tagged in on the site. As a future educator, I want to be seen in a favorable light. Therefore, I am very careful with what I post on the internet. Another site that comes up when I search my name is Prezi. I have made several Prezi's for different classes, so they are all able to be seen. They don't share too much personal information, but they do show some of the work that I have done in many of my courses here at NCSU. Other sites such as twitter and pinterest can also be found by searching my name into Google. After realizing how many sites that I am affiliated with, I had an opportunity to reflect. None of the postings on these sites are negative, so I was happy with my search results. In order to "write myself into being" as a professional educator, I would love to start a blog. I think it would be interesting to share my student teaching experience as well as my future experiences in the classroom. Lessons that I find to be intellectually stimulating or exciting for my students could be shared as well as lessons that may not have went as great as I would have hoped. In this technologically savvy world, it would be beneficial to share my own thoughts and experiences in the classroom with others. Teaching is a profession where it is acceptable to take ideas from other educators to find best teaching practices in order to help students succeed. My digital footprints span across several sites, showing many aspects of myself as a student and future teacher. My online identity should be respectable, friendly, and open. Sharing my thoughts and experiences will be important to help myself and others gain an insight into the importance of becoming an educator.
